Why knowing what’s best for us is not good enough?
An article in the Star newspaper described how a woman climbed up a hill carrying a sack of potatoes. Life can be an uphill climb. How much tougher it is with a heavy burden on our back. So this woman took out one potato at a time, and it got lighter and lighter, even as she got higher and higher. Finally, she got to the peak with an empty sack on her back.
The Snowballing Effect
A little ball of snow rolling down the hill gets bigger, and bigger; until its size, weight and momentum; is too dangerous. The multiplied force, and impact, is fatal.
We must attend to the temptation when it ‘s still small. Maybe it comes as a picture in our mind, once or twice. This is when we have to attend to it. Otherwise, it will come more regularly; and the scenes get larger, and more attractive. In no time, the play in our minds gets so active; and its effect would be big, and full blown. At this time, it gets very difficult to deal with it.
