The folly of assumption: the downside of the word-of-faith movement.
““But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:11-14)
Faith is not assumption. Faith is not presumption. Faith is real.
Positive confession of scripture doesn’t always work. I mean our own pick-and-choose scripture. In our act of our own selective reading/quotation of the Bible, it is usually the positive that we are inclined to. But isn’t the whole Bible, scripture? Is any word less/more important or less/more useful than the others?
Yes, Jesus had done everything for us. Yet, there are requirements to comply. Simply positive affirmation alone will not do it.
The truth is, because Jesus has done everything, He requires our everything. Total requirement is fulfilled by Jesus at the cross. AND Jesus taught us to take-up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 10:38; Matthew 16:24).
Yes, we are justified by faith. But real faith will transform your whole life including our actions and commitment to God. Faith doesn’t mean that there is no commitment or that we have a do-nothing commitment.
Heaven is not for believers who merely believe (James 2:17-19). But for believers who are also disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).
Jesus said: Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and PUTS THEM INTO PRACTICE is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and DOES NOT PUT THEM INTO PRACTICE is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:23-27)
