Faith And Humility
Acts 10:9-26
Have you ever wonder why Peter had had such spiritual experiences i.e. trance, vision, clear explicit voice of the Holy Spirit?
We can point out, right away, a few things:
1. Peter was living in the purpose and will of God.
2. Peter was an instrument chosen by God for a momentous time of church history, a significant spiritual impact for the advancement of God’s kingdom.
3. It was how it is supposed to be – the norm.
I sent a sms to a brother-in-Christ the other day. My text said, “you will not fulfill your destiny and calling without being purposeful and determined.”
It is safe (pun unintended) to say that you will experience pains, hardships and setbacks. You got to be purposeful and have a sacrificial faith – to persevere under any circumstance – no matter if it’s financial famine, or turbulence in a relationship, or a situational crisis.
There was once, more than twenty years ago, a cowboy TV series entitled ‘Have Gun Will Travel’. In those American Wild West days, having a gun was a must to protect oneself - to go anywhere.
In our life climate, when the going gets tough, we need faith to travel to the destiny of God, and in the calling of God, for our lives.
Have Faith Will Travel.
No Faith, Stay Home, In Our Comfort Zone.
It’s a rugged territory with all sorts of danger and unexpected people. Like the chorus of a song, “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going.”
We need Faith Backbone to finish the ride.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
It is dangerous to have a gun that doesn’t work. Check your gun. Make sure your faith is working.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
Practice your stance, aim and firing. Make sure you are steady and firm in your position and authority in Christ. Make sure your faith strikes the demonic enemy which stands in your way.
As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.” (Acts 10:25-26)
What were the keys to Peter’s long term dramatic supernatural ministry? I am sure one of the keys was humility.
He denied the Lord three times. And He had been broken. And he had been restored at the seashore (John 21:15-19).
It was Peter who had the revelation that Jesus is the Christ, and based on this revelation, the church is built upon.
God said in Isaiah 66:1-2: Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is My throne, And earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.
More than the outward works of building God’s house; God looks for the humility at the inside of us.
Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
Faith and humility goes hand-in-hand.
Faith, without humility, primes us to fall from our high horse.
Humility, without the mixture of faith, is a potent ingredient for low self-esteem and fear.
Humility, without faith, stays put.
Humility, plus faith, gets you to the right places.
