The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-2)
The Holy Spirit was hovering over. And God spoke, and a great miracle happened – there was light!
The principle here is that before a miracle can happen, the Holy Spirit has to hover over us, and when God speaks, a miracle will happen!
How can the Holy Spirit hover over us constantly, so that we would live a miraculous life? What makes God speak in our life so that a miracle would occur?
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” (2 Chronicles 16:9; underline mine)
The Holy Spirit will hover of those whose heart is loyal to Him. He wants to show Himself strong on his/her behalf by doing miracles.
And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a loyal heart. (2 Chronicles 25:2; underline mine)
The Holy Spirit does not stop at outward behavior and actions. We may think our outward actions are pleasing to Him. But He seeks our heart. He searches our heart. He is looking at our heart. The dwelling place of the Holy Spirit is at our heart.
The original Bible Hebrew word for `loyal’ which is `shaw-lame’ has a few definitions/descriptions: complete, friendly, full, just, made ready, peaceable, perfected, quiet.
Complete
Is our heart complete for the Holy Spirit? Are there remainder areas not given to the Holy Spirit? Have we given our heart completely to God?
Friendly
The character/personality of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Is our heart accommodative and friendly to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit dwells in our heart.
Amos 3:3 says: “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
Are we having a personality clash and conflict with the Holy Spirit because of the differences in nature? Or are we allowing, and submitting, to the Holy Spirit in our heart. As the idiom says, birds of the same feather flock together.
Can the Holy Spirit find a friend in us?
Full
The Holy Spirit wants to fill us to the full. The things and attractions of this world harden our heart. They are like stones which needed to be dislodged. Do not refuse the Holy Spirit when He works in our heart to dislodge them. How can the Holy Spirit fill the full space in our heart when the stones are in the way?
Let the Holy Spirit have the fullness in us. He wants to fill us to the full.
Just
When we say that we want to follow the Holy Spirit; He know whether we truly want it. If we say one thing, and meant another, He knows it because He searches our heart.
There can only be a transparent relationship between the Holy Spirit and us.
So, let’s be honest and upright with the Holy Spirit.
Made Ready
Have we, at times, too preoccupied with our own plans and agendas – that we weren’t ready for the Holy Spirit when He wants to lead us? He wants us to be ever ready sensitive to Him. When He moves in our heart, we got to be ready to surrender and obey.
He wants us to be ever ready for Him - to speak, to move or to do something!
Peaceable
Are we striving with the Holy Spirit because we do not want to deal with our sin? Are we fighting with the Holy Spirit because we want to have control over our life?
The Holy Spirit wants to be peaceable with us.
Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Revelation 3:20)
The Holy Spirit wants to come into our heart to dine with us. He wants to share with us the meat of God’s truth in the Bible.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14)
He wants to speak to us, to give us revelations, and to tell us the future.
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (John 16:13)
Let us not deny the Holy Spirit anymore. Let us not put aside His peaceful gestures.
while it is said: “ Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:15)
He is looking to fellowship with us - at the inside of us. He can be so close to us that we would have never thought it unimaginable previously.
He wants to do miracles in our lives!
Perfected
We are on a journey of being perfected. We must surrender our heart to God to do His perfecting work.
But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)
Are we allowing ourselves to be perfected by God? Are we willing to be the clay and God the potter?
Will you surrender your heart to the Holy Spirit for the perfecting work in your life?
Quiet
Are we overly in-tuned and caught-up the people and situations around us - that we can’t hear the Him? Even if we are in a gathering or function, when we are engaged in conversations with people, and activities buzzing around us - our heart can be quiet to listen to the Holy Spirit. Can we hear His still small voice?
Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:11-13)
Are we spending time to withdraw ourselves from people and activities, so as to be alone in His presence, so that we can hear His voice more strongly and clearly? Many times, He is drawing us to spend time in His presence. Many times, He wants to speak specifics and directions into our life. The Holy Spirit wants to speak in our life. So that miracles can happen. Do you know what it is like - to live a miraculous life?
He is looking for a loyal heart that would follow Him unabashedly and unreservedly.
I want to have a heart that is loyal to the Holy Spirit. This is what He is looking for.
I want to be given to the Holy Spirit.
