But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)
The Christian life should be lived and revolved round our inmost spiritual being. A lot of people don’t understand, that when a person is `born again’ spiritually (John 3:3-8); he/she is to live the Christian life from that which (whom) is birthed forth by the Holy Spirit. Our spiritual being is a person. As a matter of fact, our inmost spiritual being should be more real to us than all other parts of us.
Our Christianity does not primarily flow out of our soul or body. But we have a spiritual being who takes after the nature of God.
Many lived the Christian life – emotionally, psychologically and physically. These aspects of our being are not wrong by themselves, but they are to be governed by our inmost spiritual being.
Just as there is a natural world, there is spiritual world.
Just as our physical being has brain and senses; our spiritual being has the mind of Christ, spiritual discernment and spiritual senses.
We have natural wisdom, we also have spiritual wisdom. The spiritual wisdom is to overrule and override the natural wisdom. The spiritual wisdom is to govern the natural wisdom, and not the other way round. The natural wisdom cannot comprehend the spiritual wisdom. But the spiritual wisdom can govern the natural wisdom wonderfully.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
The natural person cannot relate to the Holy Spirit. But our spiritual person can hear what the Holy Spirit is saying, see what the Holy Spirit is showing and sense what the Holy Spirit is doing.
In December 1985, I attended Morris Cerullo World Evangelism’s conference in Kuala Lumpur. Such an intense hunger for God’s power and reality – was created in me.
The night after the conference was over, as I was praying in my room, I sensed a wave of the Holy Spirit came upon me and filling me. My inmost spiritual being expanded and became so strong. I felt like a mass of substance inside of me – deeper than my heart. I also felt it physically at my belly area.
Then, I sensed a surge of the Holy Spirit rising-up to my throat. I knew I had to let go. And I knew I had one to two seconds to decide. I let go.
And I burst-out in an unknown tongue, the supernatural language of the Holy Spirit. I worshipped God.
Moments later, the same experience repeated itself. And moments later, I heard drum beats.
Now, the Chinese New Year celebration was around the corner. From the drum beats, I knew my father had invited the lion dance troupe into the house. They would soon bow down three times at the family altar, and after that collect `ang pow’ (red packet containing money).
I had to take authority. This was what I learned in the conference. I drew a spiritual line. I prayed in the unknown tongue and commanded the devil to leave my house. I was so loud that my grandma knocked at my room door. She was angry that I behaved so unbecomingly after I attended `that conference’.
So, I went to the living hall to see what was going to happen. I wanted to se the reality of God. The `lion’ came near the altar. I stood near the altar and told the devil (in my heart) that he had to leave.
The thing happened.
The `lion’ made a u-turn, and head out the door, and left.
My father gaped in bewilderment. He was speechless.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:4)
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not manifested merely with the supernatural language – but power!
We have made an unconscious mistake of divorcing the power from the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We have settled for tongues.
Before this night, I had been prayed for, to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. But the emphasis then was merely tongues. I did move my tongue. But no spiritual manifestation. And no spiritual power was evident.
We must believe God for the power.
We need spiritual power to be a witness for the Lord Jesus Christ. We need power to serve His purpose on planet earth.
