A Different Laugh
Genesis 21:6-7
And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.” (Genesis 21:6)
In Genesis 18:12-14, we read that the Lord promised, that Sarah would bear a son even though she passed the child bearing age. And Sarah laughed within herself out of doubt and unbelief.
Now, here in Genesis 21:6, Sarah laughed again, this time out of amazement and joy because she did bear a son who was named Isaac.
The first laugh was the laugh of doubt and unbelief. The second laugh was the laugh of amazement and joy. God changed her laugh, to a different laugh.
God spoke to Abraham and Sarah, and promised them the miracle of a son. Will not the Lord do the same to us? Will not the Lord speak to us a promise and make the miracle happen to us, so that we can laugh in amazement and joy?
Does God practice favoritism? Of course not!
What was the secret? What was the key to Sarah’s miracle so that she could laugh a second laugh?
Remember that the promise was given first to Abraham. Sarah was blessed because she was associated with Abraham.
The promised child had to come through Sarah, so they shared the same calling.
The message: miracle through association, miracle through being associated with someone who has the same calling as you.
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19-20)
More than coming together in a prayer meeting, being associated with someone who carries the same calling, gives us the potential of a lifetime miracle.
