Oh, That Ishmael Might Live Before You
Genesis 17:17-18
Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” (Genesis 17:17-18)
We believe God will bless. But we tend to believe God will bless according to our ways based on our own wisdom. Abraham thought that it would be better that God use his existing circumstances, and that Ishmael was the best option.
God’s ways are not our ways, but we often expect a miracle to happen our ways.
Well, no, a miracle from God; it has to be His ways. It is, many times, through ways outside of the parameter of our prediction and forecast.
We have to adjust to God’s supernatural ways. The natural self likes to remain in the human ordinaries. The natural self does not like to be shifted, pulled or stretched. The natural self wants to have the security of control and comprehension.
To walk the walk of faith with God, we have to go beyond the natural self. We have to GIVE UP the natural self.
