A long time ago, the famous Fijian professional golf player, Vijay Singh, visited Malaysia. He was playing in a tournament, and was interviewed by the local newspapers. ‘What was the key to your success?’ Vijay replied that whenever he was not playing well; he would go back, and examine, his basic stroke.
The legendary golfer Jack Niklaus was practicing hard at the golf course where his son was taking lessons. Jack’s swing was deteriorating, and he wondered why. His son’s instructor noticed that Jack was standing too far from the ball at the swing. The instructor was bold enough to point it out to Jack. And Jack was humble enough to accept a tip from a relatively unknown golfer. Jack rectified his mistake, and his play improved considerably. So, Jack continued his golf career success.
Tiger Woods, at the height of his success, decided to change his stroke technique. Many probably scratched their heads, ‘after all his success, why would he want to do that?’ Well, his play dropped for a season or two, while he was adjusting. Eventually, he picked-up his game and sent his competitors reeling including the then World No. 1, Vijay Singh.
I am nearing my point. Before I get there, let me tell you about the sports of squash (of which Malaysia excel).
The once World top ten player, our Malaysian own, Ong Beng Hee, had said that the crucial element to success in the squash game is mastering the basics. Because, as he said, those who could master the basics will have the consistency needed for success.
Before becoming World Champion and World No. 1, Nicol David was sent to be trained under the tutelage of Liz Irving. It sounded a bit offensive, but Liz commented that she had to work on Nicol’s basics (Nicol was already twice World Junior Champion then!).
Are you willing to open up yourself and go back to basics?
Almost everyone knows that prayer-and-devotion forms the basic, fundamental aspect of Christian living. To some of us, the idea has been drummed into our heads. We’ve been taught many methods such as ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication). Wouldn’t you want to know what Jesus taught? Remarkably, Jesus had taught prayer-and-devotion, yet somehow many of us had missed it (right under our nose, yes, with the Bible in front of us!).
Suffice to say at this juncture that The Lord’s Prayer is Jesus’ way of doing prayer-and-devotion. You will discover the power and the beauty - of The Lord’s Prayer – as you prod-on and finish this book.
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.” (Isaiah 28:10)
I would like to dedicate this work as a gift to God. Enjoy my gift to God. Enjoy your reading.
