There are quite a number of scriptures telling us that when two or three agree, a matter is established or confirmed.
This principle is stated two times in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 17:6; Deuteronomy 19:15); three times in the Gospels (Matthew 18:16-20); and three times in the Epistles (2 Corinthians 13:1; 1 Timothy 5:19; Hebrews 10:28).
This is one principle which is reiterated throughout the Bible from the Old Testament to the Gospels to the Epistles.
There is a power in two or three.
Our Lord Jesus had given us Three Sets of Two Great `Comms’.
FIRST SET: THE TWO GREAT COMMANDMENTS
Vertical Love
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. (Mark 12:29-30)
Horizontal Love
And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:31)
It’s about letting the divine love flow into us and through us to others.
As you can see, the first great commandment and the second great commandment are connected. Only when we have truly love God (vertically upwards), will we experience His divine love (vertically downwards) in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5).
And then we will love others with the divine love within us.
Suffice to say that divine love will never fail whereas human love fails at times.
As the song goes,
“Whom have I in heaven but You
There is nothing on earth I desire beside You
My heart and my strength many times they fail
But there is one truth that always will prevail
God is the strength of my heart… and my portion forever”
(Don Moen, `God Is Good’ album)
Divine love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).
Now, the second set of The Two Great `Comms’.
SECOND SET: THE TWO GREAT COMMISSIONS
Reaching Unbelievers
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)
Teaching Disciples
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Mathew 28:19-20)
The greatest motivation in fulfilling the two great commissions is divine love.
Finally, the third set of The Two Great `Comms’.
THIRD SET: THE TWO GREAT COMMUNICATIONS
The Prayer Of Divine Devotion
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
(Matthew 6:9-13)
This prayer is what we called The Lord’s Prayer.
It is about a devotional relationship between God-and-us.
God’s main concern is to get us right with Him, and right with ourselves. This prayer is structured is such a way that we would live right.
It is about God’s concern of how we live.
The Prayer Of Divine Disposition
Read John chapter 17.
While The Prayer Of Divine Devotion is primarily about a devotional relationship between God-and-us, The Prayer Of Divine Disposition is about God’s concern for the state of the church and her mission (commission) in this world
The definition of this word `disposition’ partly means:
1. the predominant or prevailing tendency; natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; characteristic attitude.
2. state of mind regarding something; inclination.
While The Prayer Of Divine Devotion is God’s way of helping us to pray rightly from the human point of view, The Prayer of Divine Disposition takes us to God’s point of view, seeing it totally from God’s perspective.
The greatest factor in prayer is love.
Of faith, hope and love; the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).
